The Challenge

Intermedia needed a faster, more cost-effective way to localize partner reseller training for multiple regions

A major component of Intermedia’s robust product and process training is its partner certification program of over 80 courses. All partners must complete the certification to resell Intermedia’s products.

To keep up with the rapid pace of change and innovation in SaaS, Intermedia uses Rise to create training. The organization rolls out new features monthly, and the team must keep training content up-to-date and relevant at all times to ensure partners are always well equipped to sell.

Customization is critical for Intermedia’s successful partner training. Because the product may vary in different regions and countries, training must be tailored to those needs. Intermedia’s four brands and multiple partner models require different training, and version control is essential to ensure each role-based learning plan succeeds.

Until recently, Intermedia’s training content was primarily offered in English, which aligned with the needs of its partner network at the time. However, the company recognized that continued global expansion required a broader set of language support to better serve its growing international reseller base.

Intermedia needed a way to quickly localize its training content to empower partners around the world to sell its products effectively.

The Answer

With Localization, Intermedia translates content for a third of the cost, improving speed-to-market by weeks

Intermedia started translating training content into a single language with a third-party company. The cost seemed high, so they looked for alternative solutions for the remaining content. With Articulate, they were able to translate three times the number of courses for the same spend.

“We knew we needed to localize our full suite of courses in all key languages to give partners in every country the same experience they would have if they were in the U.S.,” says Shannon McGinnis, Director of Global Learning and Enablement. “I was looking for better, faster, and more cost-effective ways to translate when Articulate Localization came along.”

McGinnis’s team started their Articulate Localization trial with a single language, Dutch. In just one week, they translated all 80 courses for the certification program. This was a significant improvement from their previous approach, where their third-party provider returned courses in 12 weeks that still needed reviews and adjustments.

“The speed-to-market is significantly better with Articulate Localization than it was with our previous approach,” says McGinnis. Using in-house native speakers, they were able to validate, update, and upload all 80+ courses in an end-to-end localization process of 1 month for the entire library.

Not only is the process faster with Articulate—it’s also more affordable.

“With Articulate Localization, we can offer all of our certification content in multiple languages for the same price we were paying to translate a third of the curriculum into one language,” says McGinnis.

In the future, Intermedia plans to localize its full set of partner certification courses into other languages, including German, Italian, French, Japanese, and Spanish. While the organization won’t be able to rely on in-house native speakers to validate training in all those languages, McGinnis anticipates that the process of working with a third party will be much smoother with Localization.

“Now, we’ll be able to give translators a review link, and they can act as more of a proofreader, rather than having to do full translations,” says McGinnis. “We’ll still spend money on validation, but it will be quite a bit less than our previous approach.
