For over two decades, the New Teacher Center (NTC) has dedicated itself to improving teacher effectiveness, creating robust professional learning systems, and fostering growth environments for new teachers. The nonprofit supports educators through evidence-based coaching and mentoring, empowering teachers to succeed and students to reach their full potential in school and beyond.

The Challenge
NTC needed to create more flexible, engaging online training experiences to build staff capacity
NTC’s dedication to learning and improvement drives its mission forward, empowering the teachers it serves to show up as their best selves. When Tavon Lawrence joined the organization in 2021, he saw a key opportunity to expand the organization’s culture of learning for its remote-based staff across 25+ states.
At the time, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, employee training took place exclusively via Zoom sessions. The training was designed for live participation, and recorded for staff with schedule conflicts, like those who balanced training with school visits and programs.
Those who relied on the recorded training experienced poor learning outcomes and difficulty engaging with learning material. Tracking the recorded training’s success also proved difficult. There was no way to determine who had completed the on-demand training or assess their understanding of key concepts.Â
Lawrence knew that tackling these challenges head-on was key to creating a true culture of learning among staff members—one with the power to elevate performance and compliance across the organization. With this in mind, the internal learning team at NTC found Articulate 360 and began using the platform to create more engaging, flexible learning experiences.
The Answer
With Articulate 360, NTC creates cost-effective, high-quality staff training with efficiency and ease
NTC primarily uses Rise for course authoring, Review for stakeholder collaboration, and Reach for data tracking and accountability. “Rise is easy to use, maximizing our capacity to build content that matters to our team,” says Lawrence. “It comes with lots of options for pre-made content, allowing us to provide a range of soft skills training and role-specific training. With Rise, we can build training in a way that honors the research behind our work around adult learning principles and multiple modalities.”
Review, meanwhile, allows the team to harness internal expertise across teams. “We’re big on collaboration and feedback across the organization,” says Lawrence. “Review allows us to work together effectively toward our common goals.”
Since starting with Articulate 360, NTC’s internal learning team has created a variety of training experiences, including courses for HR and compliance, leadership development, branding guidance, interactive product and service training, and more. With Articulate, the team can create more effective training experiences of all kinds with efficiency and ease.
One particularly impactful example is NTC’s Leadership Lab course. “An organization is only as successful as its managers are effective,” says Lawrence. “As we created manager training, we knew we needed to guide them on not only how to create and maintain highly effective teams, but also how to be people-centered leaders.”
With over 20 people managers across the country, the internal learning team knew it wasn’t feasible or cost-effective to conduct this training in person. By building training in Articulate, they could extend the life of the training, allow new employee cohorts to take it at any time, and enable easy updates when needed.
To develop the Leadership Lab course, the team combined their own research and best practices with pre-made content from Articulate course templates—an approach that allowed them to create high-quality content in a relatively short period. The comprehensive training includes a range of courses, including soft and hard skill-building, organization-specific content, and more. It’s now available to all managers across the organization and is required for all new leadership roles.
Using Articulate, NTC has also created training for its external partners to prepare school districts and program leaders around the country to work with district mentors and coaches. One such training, Presenter’s Institute, focuses on content presentation skills so partners are effectively prepared to “train the trainer.”

With Articulate, NTC has seen significant cost savings compared to its previous approach. Each learning experience involves about 20 staff members. Lawrence estimates that creating those experiences in Articulate saves NTC approximately $22,000 in training costs, such as hotel and room rental fees, meals, and other travel expenses.
Those savings mean the organization can put every dollar where it matters most. “Switching to Articulate helped keep our learning culture alive,” says Lawrence. “Moving in-person experiences to e-learning has allowed us to reallocate funds to better serve the communities we work with.”
Ultimately, says Lawrence, these learning experiences funnel back to NTC’s mission to build a resilient, modern educator workforce with enriching professional learning. “With Articulate, we’re able to give everyone more opportunities to practice, align, and get better at what they do,” he says.
