Virtual Instructor-Led Training

What is virtual instructor-led training?
Virtual instructor-led training (VILT) is training that is delivered in a live, interactive online environment that mimics traditional classroom training. Students interact with their instructor and classmates in real-time, receive immediate feedback, and participate in group discussions online. Virtual training is delivered via video conferencing software and follows an agenda planned by the instructor.
Example: Our company offered two virtual instructor-led training sessions to deliver new product training to our remote employees.
VILT is often used in a blended learning approach where live, synchronous instruction is combined with asynchronous, on-demand content delivered via a learning management system (LMS).
What are the benefits of virtual instructor-led training?
The virtual environment offers better flexibility and scalability than traditional classroom training. Learners can join instructor-led sessions from wherever they are and on any device, as long as they have an internet connection. Organizations use virtual instructor-led training to deliver workplace learning—from onboarding to technical skills training—while avoiding travel, venue rental, and materials costs.
Virtual, instructor-led training facilitates live discussion between employees who may not interact with each other on a regular basis. This helps build a sense of community and promotes social learning, which helps employees gain knowledge by observing and imitating their more experienced colleagues.
