Databricks is a unified, cloud-based data intelligence platform that enables organizations to process, store, clean, share, and analyze large datasets while building AI and machine learning models. What sets the organization apart is its unique ability to manage unstructured data, capturing valuable insights from videos, social media posts, audio clips, and more.

O Desafio
Scale learning with a small team at a fast-growing company
At Databricks, three instructional designers support learning for more than 8,000 employees. Training demands come from all angles. Product education, onboarding, HR programs, compliance, sales enablement, security training, and internal brand initiatives all require high-quality internal learning experiences.
The volume alone presents a challenge. Add in a deeply technical product that evolves quickly, and the complexity multiples. Content must be accurate, current, and practical. It must resonate with both engineers and non-technical teams, and it must be concise.
Employees don’t have the bandwidth for long, context-heavy training. If learning is difficult to find or slow to consume, it simply won’t be used. “If our training isn’t quick to find and quick to use, it won’t land,” says Diane O’Neill, Senior Manager, Listening & Enablement team.
In the company’s early days, much of the training lived in slide decks. That approach worked when the company was smaller. But as headcount grew into the thousands, the model broke down. Slides were hard to standardize, difficult to scale, and too dependent on a small team to create and maintain.
“Slides worked when we were smaller, but they weren’t going to scale with us,” says O’Neill.
To keep up with growth, Databricks needed a way to create a large volume of high-quality, engaging training without overloading a three-person L&D team.
A Solução
Scalable, interactive learning with Articulate 360
Articulate 360 has given Databricks a flexible and agile platform to build concise, engaging learning experiences that match the company’s brand and pace.
The team has adopted a microlearning-first approach, designing short, focused lessons employees can complete quickly and revisit as needed. For more complex topics, they create interactive experiences that make technical concepts easier to understand.
“Articulate 360 makes it easy to build training people will actually complete,” says O’Neill.
One of the most successful examples is the company’s Product Fundamentals program. Assigned to every employee and embedded into new hire onboarding, the training establishes a shared language around Databricks’ technology and value proposition.
It ensures that every employee, regardless of role, understands what the company does, the problems it solves, and why it matters. Interactive elements and quick knowledge checks throughout the course reinforce learning without slowing learners down.
Desenvolvendo o Potencial Humano
Training created across the business, not bottlenecked in L&D
Three instructional designers cannot build every course for a company of over 8,000. Databricks scaled learning by enabling the business.
Today, more than 30 employees across legal, marketing, IT, and other teams create training in Articulate 360. Adoption happened organically, sparked by the example set by the Listening & Enablement team. Teams saw the polished, interactive learning experiences created in Articulate 360 and wanted the same quality for their own programs.
“People would see our courses and ask, ‘How do we do that?’” says O’Neill.
Onboarding new creators was straightforward, says O’Neill. Teams didn’t need an instructional design background to get started—they’d simply learn the functionality behind core Articulate 360 features, add approved brand visuals, and training was ready to go.
“You don’t need an instructional design background to get started with Articulate 360,” says O’Neill. “It’s that easy.”
Empowering departments to build their own learning keeps subject matter experts close to their specialty content. It accelerates updates as products evolve. It reduces backlog for a lean L&D team and frees them to focus on high-impact initiatives. All the while, it helps employees get answers fast and in the flow of work. The result is a workforce aligned around shared knowledge and equipped to innovate at speed.
“When more teams can create training, the entire business benefits,” says O’Neill.
With Articulate 360, Databricks delivers concise, branded learning at scale while enabling 30+ employees in different departments to create and maintain training on their own.
You don’t need an instructional design background to get started with Articulate 360. It’s that easy.
