The Challenge

Ethos Farm needed to accelerate course creation without sacrificing quality or creativity

The learning and development team at Ethos Farm creates custom content for over 500 learners spanning multiple sectors, including retail, commercial aviation, travel, and more. Most of their audience works in customer service, guest experiences, sales, and travel retail, and require soft-skill and role-based training.

One common challenge Ethos Farm faces with new clients is e-learning hesitation. “A lot of our clients start only wanting in-person classroom training or PDFs that you can’t track,” explains Tara Welsh, Instructional Design Manager. To help these clients make the e-learning switch, Welsh requires a tool that enables her to build engaging content examples rapidly.

Ethos Farm also creates a hefty amount of promotional training—educating teams on short-term sales campaigns, new product launches, and seasonal offers to boost immediate sales and customer engagement. “Promotional content has a short shelf life of only a few weeks, so we need to get the training out fast,” explains Welsh. Still, fast doesn’t mean bland or generic. “Our courses are all custom built,” says E-learning Design and Development Lead Tom Harte. “We’re creating quick-fire learning as well as longer, more technical training courses that incorporate text, images, custom graphics, voiceovers, videos, and automations.”

To meet their complex needs, the creators at Ethos Farm require an easy-to-use, versatile tool—one that enables them to quickly build custom training that’s interactive, engaging, and, ultimately, effective.

The Answer

With Articulate 360, Ethos Farm rapidly creates interactive, one-of-a-kind training

Ethos Farm has long used Articulate 360 to meet its goals. For Welsh, Rise is ideal for building attention-grabbing content examples and short shelf-life promotional courses. “One thing I love about Rise is how quickly you can develop great-looking training,” shares Welsh. “I can go into Rise and, within an hour, have something clients can react to and experience.” Even for longer soft-skill and role-based training courses, Welsh usually creates outlines directly within Rise—and often builds follow-up microlearning courses, quizzes, and real-world practice activities with scenario blocks.

For more technical or complex training, Ethos Farm opts for Storyline. “I love Storyline because it’s fully customizable with no real limitations. You can create whatever you imagine,” says Harte. One such example is a dynamic conveyor belt game that Harte created for airport training. “Each luggage item goes through the conveyor belt and gets scanned by the x-ray,” explains Harte. Once the luggage is scanned, it’s up to the learner to answer questions and push the luggage through.

The Ethos Farm team also takes full advantage of Review, the collaborative feedback tool included with Articulate 360. “I don’t know what I’d do without Review. It makes collecting feedback and pulling up previous versions so much easier,” says Welsh. “And for Storyline, it’s great that Review is in the app, so you don’t have to go online to see the comments,” adds Harte.

Unlocking Human Potential

Ethos Farm excites clients, engages learners, and elevates creators with Articulate 360

Today, Ethos Farm delivers top-tier training solutions, exceeding client expectations and driving learner success. “I have clients that once only wanted things in person, but thanks to the Rise courses that I’ve created for them, they’re now launching digital training and wanting more of it,” shares Welsh. Individual learners are also more engaged. “Compared to their traditional training routes, the number of people completing courses is up significantly,” says Harte.

Course creators are reaping the benefits as well. “When I began using Storyline, the UI was already so familiar. It almost felt like I wasn’t starting something new,” shares Harte. “And I can pick up and use Rise straight away without any learning curve.” Plus, those who want to hone their craft feel more empowered. “Most instructional designers and developers are self-taught,” explains Welsh. “So what’s great about Articulate is that you can use the Training tab to watch quick videos or go into E-Learning Heroes and build your know-how.”

“As a developer, I always want each project to be better than the one before,” says Harte. With Articulate 360, the instructional designers and developers at Ethos Farm are living up to that ideal—ensuring that every creator and learner unlocks their own limitless growth potential.

Articulate 360 enables Ethos Farm to seamlessly integrate its values into every project, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and engagement for learners and course creators alike.

I love Rise and don’t know what I’d do without it. It’s a superior tool. I can easily build a professional soft-skill or role-based course in under an hour, and it looks like it took a full day to develop. It’s fresh, clean, and just as sleek on the phone as on the desktop.

The Challenge

Epstein Gibbons Communications needed a versatile e-learning tool to create complex, performance-based training

Dan Epstein has created courses for thousands of learners across industries spanning tech, medical, biotech and pharma, construction, engineering, defense, finance, automotive, education, hospitality, manufacturing, and transportation. The training covers topics ranging from compliance, sales effectiveness, and security to product and technical training, customer service, and more.

Initially, Epstein developed content with another popular e-learning tool. However, as the sole Learning and Development Consultant and Producer at Epstein Gibbons Communications, Inc., he found the tool too clunky, time-consuming, and difficult to work with. To create the complex training his clients required, Epstein needed a solution that would allow him to develop custom, engaging interactions to captivate learners. To further customize learner experiences, he also needed to build interactions that could serve up different experiences based on real-time learner decisions.

The Answer

Epstein Gibbons Communications leverages Storyline to create immersive experiences with ease

Epstein switched to Storyline in 2014, noting, “The kind of things clients want are simply too complex for other tools. I need that Storyline engine underneath to get stuff done.” Storyline’s usability and intuitive interface also make content creation easy. “What motivates me to continue using Storyline is my familiarity with the product and its general ease of use. I taught myself how to use Storyline. I couldn’t do that with other tools,” says Epstein. Plus, when courses are completed, Review also streamlines Epstein’s collaborative process, explaining: “Review makes collecting, tracking, and managing feedback simple.”

Epstein leverages Storyline’s variables, states, and triggers to create simulations and hands-on experiences that account for user input. For example, for a European conveyor belt manufacturer, Epstein built interactive e-learning scenarios to help customers understand how to maintain systems and complete product repairs. “I integrated the client’s 3D-rendered videos to make it look like the conveyor belt was moving. Learners had to investigate areas, diagnose problems, and select tools to make repairs,” Epstein says.

For another Chicago-based client, Epstein built scenarios for a medical assistant credential course. In the course, learners gain experience helping patients suffering from different conditions. “There isn’t always one right answer. So I used Storyline to implement a ‘best,’ ‘OK,’ and ‘poor’ grading scale and allowed learners to practice real-world decision-making in a safe environment,” says Epstein.

Beyond simulations and scenarios, Epstein also uses Storyline’s interactive features to get learners involved. For example, by incorporating buttons and dials into traditionally dry compliance courses, Epstein creates dynamic, user-controlled experiences. This strategic use of interactivity keeps learners alert and invested, even when they aren’t working through practice scenarios and knowledge checks.

Unlocking Human Potential

Epstein Gibbons Communications delivers measurable impact for thousands of learners with Storyline

Epstein’s work demonstrates how well-crafted e-learning propels actionable change. In one prominent example, Epstein created active listening scenario exercises for customer care representatives at a major pharmaceutical firm. “The training led to a 50 percent reduction in the number of cases requiring special handling,” says Epstein.

Epstein has forged valuable connections with a vibrant Storyline user community—sharing how this helps him elevate his craft: “Helping others solve problems has benefited my skills, and I’ve also learned a lot from other creators.” Even better, Epstein’s learners feel that same sense of professional empowerment: “I’ve received lots of compliments from project stakeholders and agency reps about my work’s beneficial impact,” says Epstein.

Epstein’s commitment to performance-based training and engaging content makes a tangible difference, helping front-line workers thrive and feel empowered in an ever-evolving business landscape. “Storyline allows learners to practice performance-based activities,” says Epstein. “And that’s ultimately why we’re here—we make training to teach people how to do things.”

Epstein Gibbons Communications leverages Storyline to shape more effective, engaging professional training across industries.

Storyline is a powerful tool. I can make courses ‘sing’ by adding videos, graphics, branching interactions, and real-life task complexity for technical and human behavior training.
