Unprecedented Interactivity, Software Simulation, and Mobile Publishing Features Revolutionize E-Learning Authoring

Articulate® today released Articulate® Storyline®, the first e-learning authoring tool that’s simple enough for beginners and powerful enough for experts. With Articulate Storyline, e-learning authors can create interactivity, software simulations, and virtually any type of assessment with unrivalled ease and speed. Articulate Storyline includes one-click publishing to Flash, HTML5, and Articulate Mobile Player, a new iPad app that provides the best viewing experience of e-learning content on the iPad.

“Articulate Storyline is the only e-learning software that grows with you,” says Adam Schwartz, Articulate’s founder and CEO. “If you’re a beginner, you can get started with Storyline without training. It takes just minutes to build amazing interactivity. Then, as your skills grow, you can take advantage of Storyline’s incredible power to create anything you want. Your imagination’s the limit. For the first time ever, you don’t have to sacrifice power for simplicity."

The innovative slide layers, triggers, and states features in Articulate Storyline revolutionize how e-learning authors create interactivity―there’s no programming required. Slide layers make it possible to build multiple interactions on a single slide by overlaying objects, eliminating the need to duplicate and manage multiple slides. The triggers feature controls which activity occurs when learners take certain actions. Setting a trigger is as easy as choosing from a menu of easy-to-understand actions and designating when the action should occur. Combining simple triggers creates increasingly complex interactivity. The states feature makes objects feel alive. For example, e-learning authors can set an object to change color when it’s visited or a character’s expression to change from happy to sad when a learner answers a question incorrectly. Storyline also includes variables for creating conditional interactivity.

Combining the simplicity of form-based authoring with the flexibility of slide-based editing, the quizzing features in Articulate Storyline make it remarkably easy to create 20 different types of questions. E-learning authors can also use free-form question types to rapidly build assessments from any objects on a slide. For example, creating a drag-and-drop interaction involves adding objects to a slide, choosing “drag-and-drop” from the menu, then assigning drag items and drop targets using a simple form-based editor. It’s possible to build a fully functional drag-and-drop interaction in under a minute. Advanced quizzing features in Articulate Storyline include question pooling, randomization, and the ability to score a learner’s progress at multiple points in the course.

The software simulation and screen recording capabilities in Articulate Storyline drastically simplify how e-learning authors create simulations. They record a screen session once and then insert the recording as step-by-step slides, choosing View mode to demonstrate a task, Try mode to let learners attempt the task, or Test mode to assess a learner’s ability to complete the task. Because Articulate Storyline processes screen recordings after capturing it, they can go back at any time to choose a different mode or fine-tune frames—without re-recording.

Getting e-learning content to learners everywhere is simple with Articulate Storyline. Storyline includes industry-leading section 508 support, making it widely accessible to learners with disabilities. It also supports right-to-left languages, including double-byte character sets required for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Courses can be published with a single click to multiple formats, so learners can interact with content on their iPads, desktops, Android devices, and more. Storyline publishes to Flash, which is supported by a vast majority of personal computers, and to the Articulate Mobile Player, a native iOS application that optimizes the viewing experience on iPads. Storyline also publishes to HTML5, an increasingly popular format for delivering content with rich multimedia and interactivity.
