Why is my recorded narration or imported audio missing in my published presentation?

If you have recorded narration or imported audio and it is no longer present there are several reasons why this could be happen. This issue is usually caused by renaming your PowerPoint file or saving your PowerPoint file in a different location.

When you create an Articulate presentation Articulate Presenter will place everything that can't be embedded in the PowerPoint file in a project folder. The project folder is named the same as the PowerPoint file and would be located in the same folder that contains your PowerPoint file.

If you rename the PowerPoint file or save the PowerPoint file in a different location via File -> Save as you may lose the connection between the PowerPoint file and your project folder. The connection between the two is determined by the value ArticulatePath in File -> Properties -> Custom.

To correct this issue you would need to locate the original project folder named after the original PowerPoint file. In this project folder would be a folder called narration. If you see all of your audio in the narration folder then what you would need to do is make a copy of the original project folder and rename it to match the name in ArticulatePath and make sure the project folder is located in the same folder that contains your PowerPoint file. You can even just copy the name of your PowerPoint file and just rename the folder to match that. If you are still unable to recover your audio you should do the following:

  1. Confirm that your presentation is located on your local drive (usually your c: drive). If you are importing audio files they should also be located on your local drive: Locals Only

If you are working on a network drive and are losing your audio, check to make sure that you are publishing to the same drive but to a different folder than the one that contains your PowerPoint file. If you are still having issues, move the PowerPoint file and the project folder (the folder that is named the same as your PowerPoint file) to your local drive. Due to network permissions issue you may be unable to publish a project that is located on a network drive.

  2. If you work in a collaborative environment, we recommend that you share your project files by publishing your project files and moving them to a shared location, such as a network drive. Please see:

  3. Lastly, you should not publish to the same directory that contains your PowerPoint file and its corresponding project folder. This may cause you to lose all of your narration and will impact the integrity of your directory structure of both your published output and your project files.
