They say you can run both versions side by side, but I haven't purchased the upgrade so I can't verify that...

I am running versions 5 and 6 on the same computer with no problems. However, I am not going into "production mode" until version 6.01 is available after qc testing. Version 6.0 has some stability issues and IS NOT recommended on 64 bit systems.

I've just starting using Camtasia 6 and produce projects into mp4 files. I then put those files into Articulate Video Encoder, which will publish them into flv files. However, I am not able to see the video in edit mode (to trim, etc). All I see is a white blank area. Has anybody else had this, or am I doing something wrong?

I'd start with making sure you have the right video codecs.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...codec_pack.htm The site above is a great resource. |

Be very careful in installing unusual codecs on a machine running Camtasia. the K-lite (spelling????) set of codecs will cause conflicts with Camtasia.
Version 6.02 of Camtasia - which is a free upgrade for owners of Camtasia will render to flv output. |

Oh great. I have just installed the K-lite codecs before seeing your reply. Thanks for the heads up. Do you know which ones conflict and how to get rid of them?

The Techsmith knowledge base simply warns against K-lite - and advises to contact tech support. The article does not specify any specific codec.

I have found that Camtasia 6.02 renders to .swf (not .flv, unless I've missed something). I have tried to include the .swf file into a presentation using the Flash Movie inserter in Articulate. Whilst the movie thumbnail shows in the Insert Flash Movie dialogue box I only get a grey square when previewing the slide.
Having said that, I imported the mp4 file that Camtasia produced as well into Video Encoder and didn't have the same problem as I originally started this conversation with (i.e. unable to see it in edit mode). Perhaps this is the codecs I've installed - just have to keep an eye out for conflicts with Camtasia I guess. |

Trust me - in version 6.02 flv output IS there - in the production wizard in Flash options - you can produce to mp4, swf OR FLV.
I am a moderator on the Techsmith forum as welll on the beta testing team for Camtasia - I should know. Are yoo SURE you have version 6.02? Check Help > about. |
