A colleague of mine has a need to do a comparison of the two e-learning standards for a presentation. Anyone know of a good, dispassionate comparison of the two standards? Strengths and weaknesses of each?
I've never done this since we only use AICC for the moment, and I don't have the time to do some research for her. So I'm wondering if anyone here knows of anything that currently exists. Thanks!

Thanks, Robert! much appreciated. I've passed the link on to my colleague.
Later this year, we hope to re-visit SCORM and our Saba 5.3 LMS, if only for testing. One thing in your article possibly concerns me on that. We have some custom e-learning content from outside vendors and some others developed in-house with Lectora that used Java applets to communicate with the LMS. Without exception, all started having completion problems or course freeze-ups with the LMS about 15-18 months ago about the same time when we finally abandoned the Microsoft VM for the SUN Java client. One vendor claims their courses have problems due to corrupt Java installs pushed out by our IT group. Just wondering if I should be concerned with SCORM in our environment?

Gerry, it's hard to say without knowing specifically what the alleged problem was with the Java install.
I certainly don't think it's a problem with Java in general—in my experience Java technology (and the Sun plug-in specifically) is extremely robust. Having said that, specific courses or authoring tools might have known issues with certain Java versions. If you haven't done so already, you might want to check with the outside vendors and Trivantis specifically which Java versions they support. |

Thanks, Robert!
Will do. We now have our Lectora developers (a minority for us compared with our number of Articulate users) use the Lectora Javascript method of publishing to AICC and that's been pretty rock solid so far. All the best.
