Sorta off topic but related . . .
I use Firefox 2 at home to access this forum. Since upgrading to the latest release of Firefox (2.0.0.4) last week, Firefox sporadically "forgets" my login info for sites like this one. I have to keep logging in, even though, at login time, I check "Remember Me." Before 2.0.0.4, no problems with using Firefox for accessing this forum. Firefox seems to remember my login info as long as I keep my browser open and go and come back here. However, when I close my browser and re-start it later, most of the time when I come back here, I have to log in again. It's almost like my cookies are getting cleared when I close the browser, even though it shouldn't and I have no privacy settings set up in Firefox that would do this. Weird . . . Seems like this is happening for other people with other sites: Firefox 2.0.0.4 Losing Cookies? - mozilla.support.firefox | Google Groups Any one here experiencing this issue with the new Firefox 2.0.0.4? |

That explains it. I was just emailing Gabe about a similar issue. I was getting logged off and then messages stating that the forum was closed to new posts.

I may have it fixed (or, so far this now seems to be working for me).
I go to Firefox > Tools > Options and then to the Privacy Tab. Even though the options there were set right for me, I de-selected them, saved the settings, and then re-selected the default settings and re-saved. I'm hoping that "jarring them here" got the right settings finally working (I'm suspecting the clear private data was happening with each exit previously even though it wasn't selected). So far, after 3 attempts, it's holding (with fingers crossed!). Here are my "final settings" (your "mileage" may vary). I hope this holds now. ![]() Best! |

Strange. I've been on FF 2.0.0.4 for as long as it's been released, and I've yet to encounter this issue. What do you guys have for these two settings?

Gabe. I think you were composing as I was posting my follow-up. I'm good now.

Cool. Glad you figured this one out, Gerry! Hopefully that was the only issue, and that anyone else who may run into this will benefit from this thread.

Well, it's worked for the most part. It lost "it's mind" again one time late yesterday. Then, after re-supplying the login info, it took again, and so far has stuck (fingers crossed again!). Best! - Gerry |

Update: Still had this problem on and off since my last post. While a little thing, it's was perplexing.
After reading a few more posts on this issue online at some FireFox Mozilla sites, some people were talking about anti-virus and spyware apps as the real cause. So I started looking at my Spyware prevention app--Spy Sweeper, which also had an upgrade pushed out lately. Turns out it was blocking tracking cookies and that was the culrpit. Once I enabled tracking cookies, my auto login to this site and others started working reliably again. Of course why the tracking cooking block worked sometimes and sometimes not is a concern, but that's another company's software product . . . ![]() Last edited by GerryWaz : 07-03-2007 at 06:30 PM. |
