Default Favourite Fonts for Specific Uses...

Do you have any favourite fonts, for specific uses?
I'll start the ball rolling:
1> "Segoe Print" for "handwriting" effects - much nicer IMHO than Lucida Handwriting.
2> "Romeo" for a "Rubber Stamp" effect - nice to have one or two words on the middle of a page, very large and very "in your face".
3> "Eraser" (a font that looks like you have written in chalk" - great when used in a text box on a blackboard graphic for highlighting concepts, and so much nicer than a bullet point list!

Great idea. I'll find some to share. I like how you added pics so we can see the fonts you are sharing.

Hi Bruce,

I use Trebuchet MS for the normal text on the screen ("The Trebuchet typeface family, like Verdana and Georgia, was created for use on the screen") and Kristen ITC (handwriting font) for things that must stand out.
I like your Segoe Print font better then Kristen ITC though, where can I download it?

greetings, Elka

Hi Elka,
I bought it from Segoe Print font family MyFonts - I find it a very "genuine" handwriting font, the best I have see, (although I am rather impressed by Giuliano Handwriting? font family MyFonts)

Compatibility ceases to be an issue if you use the font, and then save it/use it as a graphic. Superimposing several graphics, (such as the chalkboard and writing) and then saving as a graphic in PowerPoint 2007 can be great - instead of bullets you have a chalkboard with 4/5 interactive chalk-written words on it.

Fonts can be a lovely way to create a "Labelled Graphic" interaction - just a few compelling words on a screen, in a nice font, and then you click on them to reveal the "learning".

Here's another idea I just had for a nice use of "handwriting" fonts - just a DRAFT but you get the idea...a "completed animal crossword labelled graphic interaction".

I've put Tom Kuhlmann's handwriting to work in an English course I recently put together. He posted the font for free on the Rapid eLearning Blog.

Thanks for the contribution Brian.
I LOVE that second example - has given me another idea. On a page of just text, or the hated bullets, use this effect to "draw out", (excuse the pun...) the essence of what the slide is saying. Love the possibilities here - you could do it as a picture, and then have hyperlinks to "...between the lines of the bullets...".
Great stuff.
Thanks
Bruce

This is a brilliant post. Thanks for starting the same!

I need to write testimonials on my website and am planning to select a "handwriting" font for the same.

Could there be a better category of font for this purpose? Any suggestions...

Fonts, like people, have distinct personalities and effects. (Wonder if there are cultural influences also?)

For example, I showed the examples in post # 6 above to some colleagues here. Most "hated" the font. But they loved the eraser font and the crossword puzzle font.

Go figure . . . .

I am a little bit font-obsessed so I have several "favorites," but in the handwritten category I have had a hard time finding one that I liked that wasn't too feminine and was also free. Recently, I came across Crossword Belle (demo here: Crossword Belle Font | dafont.com or purchase here: crosswordBelle | JOEBOB. The demo does not include numbers or punctuation, but I have had some success with using those parts of other handwritten fonts when necessary. (Sample attached; the other font is Megalopolis: Font Squirrel | Free Font MEgalopolis Extra by SMeltery)

As for font resources, I am a big fan of dafont.com and fontsquirrel.com for free downloadable fonts.
