Default Creating an indoor scene

I am working on a project where I am creating a slide that looks like the inside of a store that my users work in. I am having a hard time adding perspective to the floor so that it looks 3D as if I am inside the room. I've seen many of you do a great job of this so I wanted to get your ideas on how I can make my scene look better. Specifically, David Anderson (@eLearning) just recently posted a screenr of creating this kind of scene and this would be a follow up question to that. Take a look at my Screenr and please post a reply if you have any ideas of how I can improve what I started.

Hey Joe!

I think the elements you have will work nicely.

The first thing I notice is your floorboards have a shadow which kind of makes the wall appear to float over the floor rather than intersect the floor.

The other thing I'd look at is moving wall higher and floor higher. What happens if you throw a person in the scene?

Joe, can you share your pptx file here?

Thanks David. Applied your suggestions and posted a pic here. I was not able to attach my .pptx. I also added a little more to the X rotation to see if that would help. After dropping in a couple of random people it looks a little better but I am thinking there might be some other touches I can make to make it look better.

I was looking at your screenr on the art gallery quiz to try and duplicate your shadowing from the wall to the floor but couldn't pull it off.

Thanks again and let me know if you any more tips.

PS - It did not recognize the file type for .pptx and I think the file may have gotten to large after saving it as .ppt. Let me know if there is a better way to post it.

Your proportions seem to be a bit off as well - the carpet pile is much more visible than it would be in real life! This may lend itself to a little of the 'unreality' of it.

One thing I like to do if I'm going for a '3D' look is to put the room at sort of a three-quarter view. Put a corner in there somewhere, so you can see the floor and portions of two walls.

Hey Joe - this looks good. The texture on the carpet texture probably needs to be set to higher repeat value. Currently carpet is uber shaggy:-)

If you like, you can zip your pptx file and attach. Forum likes zips and image files but not much else:-)

One thing that also might help with the perspective is to apply a shape with a slight gradient on top of both the carpet and the wall, so that the place where they meet gets just a little darker, and the area that's closer to us is a little lighter:

Thanks for the tips all. They are definitely helping. Here's the latest update with zipped files attached (Don't know why I didn't think of that David). The gradient shape was a great tip, that's exactly what I was trying to do with the shadow on the floor board but this looks way better.

This version is definitely looking better. Now I need to add some beds lined up along the wall and maybe a picture or two on the wall.

Hey Joe - is the publishing okay for you? I'm getting some wonky graphics on the 3rd version. Just wondered if it was my rendering ?

I haven't tried publishing it yet. I've been playing around with the graphics trying to get the 3D rotation correct so I may have done something. Graphics look fine while I am in the power point though. I attached the most recent .pptx I am using to create the graphics. I'll eventually be dropping this scene into Quizmaker as a background.

Joe this is looking great!

One thing I usually do is create shapes both for the floor as well as the wall and fill with the texture. This makes swapping them out with future textures a lot quicker. I have a series of screencasts I'm doing this week to follow up on last week's.
