Default Reducing On Screen Text

We had a few requests for the storyboard template and PowerPoint source files used in the screencasts on Reducing On-screen Text so I thought I'd start a thread to share the files.

I think a challenge for many designers faced with determining: how to reduce on screen text, how much narration to use and when/how to use graphics in place of text, is often part of a broader question around "what kind elearning course am I creating".

Is the course a:
  • Read-only?
  • Narrated slide show?
  • Multimedia storytelling?
  • Hybrid course with some sections read-only and others narrated?

I'd like to open this up and learn how others are approaching on-screen text, narration, use of graphics/image in narrated courseware.

Thanks, David! Very nice.

Side question: In the first part, you put a lot of the the significant text in red.

Just curious how you would might reconcile that with the 20% of the population that is color-blind and mainly red-green color blind.

One more wild idea . . .

Great design stuff like this cuts across Presenter, Quizmaker and Engage.

Just brainstorming out loud and wondering if it would help to have a new forum section here--something like "Designing e-Learning," a specific place for non-software-technical questions on instructional design, writing, graphical design and related issues?

Not sure if "General Discussion" fits this stuff best. Don't want it to get lost .

Okay that is a great idea and thanks for including the high level topics.
  • instructional design,
  • writing,
  • graphical design

What are some other areas that could be included?
