Hi everyone,
For the longest time, I've been using hyperlink feature to be able to play a sound file in Quizmaker. It works, but it is a pretty clunky method because another window opens up. I happened to be on another website, and I saw a reference to how to embed a sound file directly on the page instead of having a new window open up. Here is the code: alt : test.wav and the page itself looks like this I don't know enough about Quizmaker to see if I could play around with the published content and get this to work. Does anybody know if something like this would be possible (it doesn't work on all browsers: Safari and Linux based systems are apparently especialy afflicted) Thanks for any light anyone might be able to shed. Hi Joe,
Can you tell me more about how you're trying to implement the audio? Do you want the audio to play as soon as the end-user gets to a specific question? Or do you want the end-user to click a link or a button before the audio plays?

HI Brian,
What I would like is for the sound to play when they click on something. The idea is that they would play the sound and then answer a question based on it (i.e., they would hear a word in a foreign language and then select what the word was in a multiple choice or fill in the blank question). Gerry showed me long ago how to make a sound button in Quizmaker, but that method gets a little clunky because a new window opens. What I would like is to embed the audio button directly in Quizmaker, so the sound would begin when the click on the button without a new window opening. Joe |

I think that your best option would be to convert your audio file to an SWF file. Then, use the Insert Flash Movie option to import the file. This will give you the option of adding play controls to the file. To convert the audio file to SWF, you can use this free service: Free online media file conversion (Document, Images, Audio, Video & Archives) (Articulate does not support the above link)

Or another idea is to use Screenr to record your audio, download the MP4 movie, and then position it on your quiz slide so that only the playbar is visible. Here's an example:
Screenr - @jeanettebrooks: Here's a way to allow learners to replay audio instructions or narration in #Articulate Quizmaker

HI,
Quick follow-up: I converted the file using another program than the one you suggested. The Articulate FLF Player will open it fine, but when I try to import the file into Quizmaker under the Flash Movie, it says that it isn't supported format. I'll play around with some other options, but any suggestions? Joe |

Sorry, another quick follow-up. The file works OK when I import it in Presenter, so it is just Quizmaker that is not recognizing it.

HI,
Sorry. last post. Figured out the problem: I had converted the file to a FLV instead of SWF. It (mostly) worked when I converted it to a SWF. Only weird issue concerns replaying the video/sound file once it has already played. I can only get it to replay by clicking on the box above the controls, not the controls itself. The triangle at the control box is there, but doesn't work. But I can probably work around that issue, maybe see if a different converter works better. Thanks again for the help. Joe |

Since Update 5 of the Articulate software supports MP4 files, you might try converting the file to an H.264 codec MP4 file to see if that resolves the issue.
