Default Problems when embedding Captivate 4 swfs

Wondering if anyone has encountered this - and, if so, what is the cure?

When I embed a swf (software simulation) that was created with Captivate 4 into my Articulate presentation, the playback has two problems:

1. The audio has a very noticable echo, and
2. The Articulate control bar does not control the swf movie.

I never had this problem before with swfs published from Captivate 2 or 3.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I'm having the same issue. Captivate 3 movies sync just fine with the player, but Captivate 4 files don't.

Hi,
I think this answers your question:

Captivate 4 movie audio echoes - Articulate Presenter ’09 Knowledge Base

Joe

PS. From what I understand, the problems lies with latest update of Captivate, not Articulate. I read somewhere that other software (i.e., Raptivity) was also having problems with Captivate 4.

Thanks for the info. That looks like a great solution for the audio issues with Captivate 4 (which I'm also experiencing), but doesn't resolve the syncing issue with the player slider. The solution for the audio echo requires setting the flash content to play independently from the slide in a new browser window. I would like the movie to play in presenter in sync with the slide and controlled by the player slider.

Setting up your movie that way is what causes the issue so that's not possible. You could try inserting the movie into a Media Tour interaction in Engage and see if that does the trick.

I tried the Media Tour, and it works. However, the rest of the course consists of Captivate 2 Flash files that were inserted on the slides. I'm adding three new slides with Captivate 4 Flash content. I would like to be consistant with the delivery approach. Those three screens would be the only Media Tours in the course. The other issue is that there's less screen real estate in the Media Tour. The Captivate files were recorded at 718x538 to maximize the entire slide area. The screen shots are less crisp when squeezed into the smaller dimensions of a Media Tour.

Is there any way to get the Captivate 4 Flash files to sync on the slide like the Captivate 2 and 3 files do?

Hi RobSD,

We haven't found one yet. This subject has been discussed elsewhere on the forums. See this thread.

Thanks for the response, Dave. Good luck with this! Hopefully, Adobe will release a patch that could address both the syncing and poor audio quality issues.

ROBsd

How about going to the Adobe site and asking them if they are aware of the issues we are having with Cap 4 and Articulate. Maybe a fix might happen faster? I am not a developer so I have not run across this.

FYI, we are looking into fixing this in a future update. It looks like there is a bug in Captivate 4 that caused this to happen. We look for the rdIsMainMovie variable in the Captivate SWFs that they still have documented here:
Adobe Captivate 4 * Variables

Unforuntately it looks like they accidentally removed that variable, and that is what caused it to break.

Anyway, we will work around the bug in the next update we do.
