Default Selling eLearning Sessions

Hi,

My company is going to begin selling our eLearning sessions and we currently do not have an LMS. Does anyone have any suggestions or techniques on how their companies manages and sell eLearning sessions without a Management System?

Thanks,
Jason

I hope to be facing the same issue soon. Here are some alternatives:
1) Get an LMS (I know, obvious and costly)
2) Use Articulate Online (private password protected accounts)
3) Sell via CD distribution

I'd like to learn alternatives too!

We would really like to do this without purchasing any 3rd party software, as we're not sure if the demand for purchasing the eLearning sessions will be worth the cost of an LMS or any other solution.

I'd like to avoid giving out CDs of the training, as this could be copied and distributed to other clients.

One thought we had was to grant user/password access to a specific URL. Give our clients the opportunity to use this URL for a time period (like 60 days), and then the authentication will expire.

Any thoughts on a better method of accomplishing this.

Thanks,
Jason

LMS's can be inexpensive if you know what you are doing. In fact, with my LMS setup, I've got $7.00 a month invested in my LMS (hosting cost only) and just a LOT of time. There's alternatives out there if you're willing to spend the time on them. Feel free to PM me with questions. Thanks!

That would be the beauty of looking at Articulate online. You can do a month-to-month contract for the size system you need. If you're not making enough money, you can just cancel the agreement. Using AO you could do a limited time arrangement, but you'd have to go to the administrator screen after the time limit (60 days in your example) and remove the user or password. It wouldn't be automatic, but inexpensive and it would do the job. Plus you can publish to your AO site right from Presenter -- saves a lot of hassle in my experience.

I understand the concern about duplicating CDs but there is always a way to cheat the systems. Clients could also pass around the URL to view your modules.

Articulate Online is probably going to be the cheapest and easiest system to implement. I would highly suggest that if you don't want to mess with an LMS.

You can set up a password protected area on your website. My webmaster is working on that for me as we speak ( or as I type ) . Users would be able to access the course after paying and would then be able to access the course with a USER-ID and password. You can even set a time limit for accessing the course---for instance three months , a year etc.

His services are very reasonably priced.

Let me know if you would like his contact informtion

HI Guys, Maybe think about Moodle (Moodle - A Free, Open Source Course Management System for Online Learning)

Is Moodle your LMS? « eLearning Development News
Rapid E-learning and Consultancy - Kineo - Moodle - Overview of the Free LMS

Personally, I have an enterprise slant – however there is no deigning the impact of the open source LMS like Moodle. I think the days of the expensive LMS deployments is gone – except for the ill-informed.

Cheers
