Hello all! I am new to this Forum, I hope you can help me...
O have just published a tutorial made using both Camtasia and AP. I used Camtasia to capture the mouse movements during the slide show, exported to Flash and inserted as Flash movie in AP, to finally generate the final production. Problem I had was: When the flash movie is inserted into AP, the animations are leaving a "trail"... you can access the tutorial in this link: http://www.ccna.com.br/VA/VA_IPv6/player.html Provide Login: ipv6 and password: ipv6 Please, let me know if someone else had this issue, and how to resolve it...! Many tks! L. |

Try this:
For a slide that contains a Camtasia movie change the view to No Sidebar view using the Slide Properties Manager. In Articulate -> Player Template Builder -> Other -> Browser Window Settings change Presentation Size to Lock at Optimal size. That should take care of the trailing effect.

Tks for the quick reply Justin!
When you say "For a slide that contains a Camtasia movie change the view to No Sidebar view using the Slide Properties Manager", you mean, in AP, select the view with no sidebar? But I want the sidebar to appear... ;-) Is there another way? Regarding the 2nd tip, I think I have already produced the presentation using the "Lock at Optimal Size" option. Tks! |

ls your movie set to scale in Camtasia? Try making the movie so that it doesn't scale in Camtasia.

camtasia .swf will leave black marks because it is scaled. to get no black mark you need no scaling of .swf.
the best setting for camtasia is lock presentation and record settings that do not need to be scaled. someone in the forum say to set display to 800x600 and record full screen and then change screen resolution back to normal. now you have full screen recording that does'nt need to be compressed. you get crisp movie like on blog |

Guru2be, problem in producing the video as 800x600 is that it will be bigger than AP`s space, meaning... part of the recorded info will be left out of AP`s screen...

Well, that's it...! I tried pretty much all combinations, and all result in the same: I get trails in the final AP presentation. Problem is: Camtasia, when used with PowerPoint, records the screen at full screen (I leave screen @ 800x600, with HW acceleration OFF, as recommended by Camtasia). After I record the PPT with all the pointers movements, I HAVE to edit the recording @ Camtasia editor and resize it to fit Articulate Presenter's space (720x540). Final result is the trailed flash. I tried everything: Matching the FPS, locking screen, etc. Nothing seemed to work. I am using AP 5.05Pro and Camtasia Studio 5.02.
How to solve this???? Anyone??? Last edited by lolovich : 04-07-2008 at 08:25 PM. |

I have noticed with some movies I have produced in Camtasia that I tend to have "trails", or artifacts, no matter what I do, same as your experience.
I can say, however, that since I have moved from the 720x540 size to the larger size as detailed in this post that I no longer get the artifacts, for whatever reason. I had checked out the Articulate Online demos and liked the larger movie size, so decided to start producing mine this way. I really like it.

Brian, many tks for your input here! I read other posts in the forum and noticed you too had a great deal of issues with trailling, like me ;-)
One thing is not clear to me, still. When I use Camtasia for recording PPT Presentations (I use Camtasia to record the pointer movements on the PPT presentation) I have to record it in full screen mode. By doing that, the only way to control the size of the captured screen is by change the monitor resolution. That leaves me with only a few options: 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768. How can I capture a full screen PPT presentation in resolutions other than those, to then import the resulting SWF file to AP WITHOUT having to change the output file resolution??? That's my main issue right now. If I choose 800x600 as screen res for capture, the result SWF file is bigger than APs screen (which I think is something like 720x540), so I end up loosing part of the PPT slide recorded in Camtasia. What to do here...? Tks again!!! |
