I'm trying to insert a flash video in my PPT presentation but I'm getting a shockwave activex control error. This was working fine 2 days ago. I reinstall presenter and shockwave and still same problem.
Windows XP PPT 20007 Presenter 5.3.551 Thanks Christian |

In Windows Vista, please do the following:
1) Quit PowerPoint. 2) Click the Start button. 3) Click All Programs. 4) Click Accessories. 5) Right click on the Command Prompt icon and select ‘Run as administrator.’ In the command prompt type the following: CD C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash 6) Next type: regsvr32.exe Flash.ocx The above command should be applied to any OCX files located in the noted directory. For example: Flash9c.ocx Flash9b.ocx Flash9.ocx 7) You should receive a message saying "DllRegisterServer in Flash.ocx succeeded. 8) Click OK. 9) Exit the Command Prompt. 10) Restart PowerPoint and try to duplicate your issue. In Windows XP or earlier, please do the following: 1) Quit the Articulate application you are using. 2) Run the following command (using Start -> Run): regsvr32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash.ocx" Note that the exact path may vary (WINDOWS may be WINNT) and the command should be applied to any OCX files that exist in the noted directory. 3) Launch the application you are having an issue with and try to duplicate your issue.

Hello Justin,
I just updated flash and the .ocx file appeared (at last). I then did what you suggested. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Have a great day and thank you again. |

I am having the same issue with inserting a flash file in PPT 2003 with XP. I have tried your solution, but the path can not be found.
Any other suggestions? I'm attaching the error message from PPT. |

So, I was able to find the path and I ran the command for Flash 10a.ocx. However, I still am getting the same error message in PPT and cannot delete a slide that i had inserted the flash file into.
Any more ideas? |

You may want to do a Detect and Repair of your Office installation. In Microsoft PowerPoint go to Help -> Detect and Repair and follow the steps outlined there.

Hi Justin,
I also did the Detect and Repair and the issue wasn't fixed. Oddly enough, when I changed the settings to open the flash movie in a new web browser instead of directly in the presenter slide, the issue completely went away and I stopped getting the error messages. How bizarre! |

When you registered the OCX file did it succeed or fail? Do you have other OCX files in that location? It sounds like you have an issue with your Flash Player installation.
