Did you publish for LMS or for the web? If LMS the content needs to reside in an LMS for that functionality to work in Internet Explorer due to browser security even if the content is online.

I'm publishing to an LMS (Scorm 1.2, in case that's relevant) and trying to view it there.

Others are able to see the Captivate demo off the LMS site, but all I see is a new window that's blank.

I should clarify that I've been publishing other Articulate Presenter materials (with interactions, etc.) without problem to this same LMS site and am able to view them just fine. (I get prompted to allow blocked content, but otherwise they run just fine.) It's just this embedded Captivate file that's a problem.

If it's a matter of allowing pop-ups in some other manner, then I'd like to know, and I can advise viewers to do that.

If you are uploading the content to your LMS you need to make sure that index_lms.html is the file used to launch the course. If you view content published for LMS via player.html it won't track in your LMS and you also won't be able to view content that opens in a new browser window on WinXP SP2 or higher running IE6 SP2 or higher.

I spoke too soon - it turns out I'm not viewing it on an LMS. The weird thing is, others can view it (using the same browser as me, IE), but I can't. Is there any explanation for that?

In the meantime, I'll try publishing it for the Web and let you know if it works then.

The only thing I can think of is they are using an earlier version of IE or have their Internet Options configured differently than the standard default settings.

Publishing for the Web works great, so I'm back in business. Thank you!

What version of IE should I be running? I'm on 6.0.something.

The Firefox version? IE 6 is fine. You can view all of the supported browsers here.

Hi,
I followed your instructions but Articulate is not controlling the swf movie from Captivate.
I am using Captivate 3. Any tips?
Thanks.

I've been following this thread and have read everyone's comments 4 times. I've read the instructions collected by daveperso several times more. I'm placing Captivate 3 files in Presenter. When I add the "*skin.swf" - the Captivate 3 player controls show up at the bottom of my Articulate screen with of course the audio I added through Articulate, but no Captivate screens. I experimented with just putting the main .swf in (suspecting that it wouldn't work) and of course it didn't work. I only have 3 additional Captivate files to place in my Articulate swf Folder - a .htm file, the main .swf file, and the .js file. After publishing, it will not display the Captivate file locally and it will not display it on Articulate Online. I'll keep working with it, but at this point I'm stumped.

Hi western,

Not sure what is happening but you say "after publishing, it will not display the Captivate locally and it will not display it on Articulate Online". It's important to remember that once you have manually moved the Captivate files, you mustn't republish or you will lose everything (except the shell that you imported in Articulate Presenter). You must upload the files as they are.

If you want to publish to Articulate Online, you need to upload your files manually. You have to open the art5 file by changing the tag to 'zip', insert your Captivate files, change the tag back to art5 and manually upload. That way, you can get your Captivate movie to show on Articulate Online.

Hope that helps

Dave
