Hi
I have created a composite glossary file in Engage containing several items. I would like to link words in the Presenter powerpoint file to the specific item. For example, when the learner clicks on the word MIMO in the powerpoint slide, he can be linked to the word MIMO in glossary providing an expansion of the term. How do I go about doing this other than creating a separate glossary engage interation for each word? If I do create a glossary item for each word, can I also access it in a composite glossary file? Is there any other way with Presenter or Engage features that a learner can rightclick on a word and see its description? Thanks for your help, Rapid_learn |

Hello Rapid_learn,
Currently none of these ideas are possible out of the box with Presenter and Engage, but they would all be great feature requests: http://www.articulate.com/support/contact/feature/

There is actually a complicated way which one forum posted some while ago and which Gabe mentioned in this blog (point number 5).
You might want to check it out but it is quite long.

Dave, thanks for the links to these posts - these are excellent references. If some of these items are not addressed in the next release of Engage I may try out a couple of these tips... I especially like the glossary example.

Yes, it is good but I have never managed to get it working easily. I guess I haven't spent long enough sorting it out. It would be better to have this as a feature of a future Engage.

On my soapbox . . .
![]() Articulate needs to make some of these things easier for the casual user--and quicker. More and more solutions we see contributed lately are developer-directed (great for the techies), while the wait for the next versions of AP, QM, and AE, gets longer and longer. I'm still a big fan but most of my users are not techies and need some things like this now and easy to implement. Off the soapbox . . . - Gerry |

I'm able to easily bring up the engage page as a pop-up out of Articulate Presenter -- unfortunately, what I really want to do is bring up the Glossary as a tab and have it open up to the selected definition, and there's no direct way (even with the SDK) to pass a variable using ASFunction to the Engage Interaction already embedded in the Articulate Presenter shell.
Frustrating. It'd be really awesome if we could find out what the path is to pass that information in to 1) open up the glossary tab; and 2) have it open to the step id I pass to the movie as a parameter. Seems like this could be pretty easy if we know the path. |

Gerry, my sentiment is the same. Most of the developers on my team are not able to implement and make work some of the more complicated work arounds, and frankly the more of these types of workarounds are needed the less it becomes "rapid" eLearning.

I have high hopes (and faith) for the next versions of AP, QM, and AE--hope they (i.e., Articulate) remove at least a few of these workarounds from developer fixes to user software features. I really like that people like daveperso and spectre and others can push and extend the Articulate apps so much. Great for them and us. But I want some of the same things for the "technically challenged" eventually in the apps themselves. Wish we didn't have to wait for new releases to see that. And I wouldn't mind seeing a new thing or two in a service release (like adding web object support to AE). Best! - Gerry |

By pushing the programs, we are hopefully giving ideas for future releases whenever they may come. Some workarounds are cool and easy and give extra features that the original design hadn't considered. Some, I agree, are not so easy and then they become less workarounds and more complicated 'hacks'.
