I have run into a problem trying to record narration using Presenter. I am able to record via PowerPoint -> Slide Show -> Record Narration, but the Articulate -> Record Narration does not work. I click on the "Start recording" button, it greys out, and the timer begins to run. I talk into the mic, click on "stop recording", and nothing has been captured. The "play" button just stays greyed out.
I can record using Articulate -> Audio Editor, and play it back within Audio Editor. However, if I then try to add sync effects via Articulate -> Record Narration, I cannot hear the narration, although it appears to exist; if I sync effects through that route and then open it using Audio Editor, both the narration and the effects are in place. I can also adjust the syncing of effects within Audio Editor and hear the narration while doing so. (Obviously this implies a possible work-around, but it is labour intensive and unsatisfactory...) I'm using Articulate '09 and PowerPoint 2003, if that helps.... Thanks for any suggestions |

Hi kenbascom, and welcome!
See if the steps in this knowledgebase article help resolve the issue you're experiencing: Audio Editor does not import or save audio – Articulate Presenter ‘09 Knowledge Base

Well, my problem doesn't seem to be with the Audio Editor, since I can record via Articulate -> Audio Editor, but I went through the information you directed me to. I checked the disabled items list in Help ->About Microsoft PowerPoint -> Disabled items, but nothing shows as disabled. I checked the Trusted Publisher settings, and the Trust all installed add-ins and tamplates option was checked.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this is going to be that straight-forward... ![]() |

Hi kenbascom,
Is your microphone set to Exclusive mode? I would recommend going into the Properties of your microphone and unchecking both Exclusive Mode options. For more information, see the link below: Unable to record audio via the Audio Editor or Record Narration – Articulate Presenter ‘09 Knowledge Base

Would I be able to record in anything else if my mic is not set up properly? (I've forwarded your post to my tech guy, since I don't have administrator rights, but this seemed a reasonable naive enquiry...)
Thanks |

It really depends upon what other software programs you have open. I know that Skype is VERY PICKY about microphone settings and can cause issues both within Skype and with other programs. Removing the "exclusive mode" option should help resolve the issue.

I can record fine in Audio Editor and PowerPoint - don't use Skype (company computer - don't even have it installed), and when I'm trying to record I don't have anything open but Outlook, PowerPoint and Presenter.....

I'm interested in the resolution for this, we're experiencing the same problem.
