Default SCORM Issue

I am publishing Articulate to SCORM 1.2 to create multiple SCOs for an 8-part course. I know you'll probably say this is an LMS issue, but since I updated from Articulate Presenter 5 to Articulate '09 last week, I'm getting different results, with the same LMS we've been using for about 5 years. With courses I created in Articulate 5 and earlier versions, as long as a user satisfied the requirements for a SCO, the system would always mark the SCO as "passed" or "complete," even on subsequent attempts. Now, with a course I've created with Presenter '09, I'm getting calls from users that if they return to a SCO that they've already completed once, it is marking it as "incomplete" even when they satisfactorily complete it a second time. This is causing problems because if they don't achieve "complete" or "pass" status for all of the modules, the system doesn't give them credit for the course. I've tried publishing with different tracking results ("Passed/Failed," "Complete/Incomplete," etc.), but that doesn't seem to matter. Now I have a few users in "SCORM Limbo." Any idea what might cause this or how to fix it? I want the status to update each time, as it did with earlier versions.

Hi,

Not sure exactly why this would work any different in the studio '09 release than in the AP5 release but, one thing you might want to try is changing some of the Configuration.js options.

After publishing in AP 09 navigate to the \lms subfolder of the published output and open the Configuration.js file in notepad. This file contains several undocumented/unsupported configuration options. One that might specifically help you is the ability to set content so that the SCORE can only improve on subsequent attempts. You can find the option here:

Quote:
var SCORE_CAN_ONLY_IMPROVE = false; //set this to true to ensure that on subsequent attempts, a learner's score can only go up
Now, I am not entirely positive on this, but it might work...however, I am not sure if this just affects score or score and status.

Dave:
Doh! I am trying to do what you suggest, but guess I don't know how to save it to Notepad. Since it's not a .txt file, it keeps telling me it can't make the change. How do you save it after making the change?

You on Vista?

You should just need to hit File>Save and that will save it with its existing name. Vista is funky sometimes though and gives you error messages that don't make a lick of sense.

You might want to check that the file is not read-only, that might prevent you from saving and give you an error message that indicates it is a different problem.

You can check if a file is read-only:
1. Right click on the file and select Properties
2. Deselect the Read-only check box

Dave:
Tried editing the Configuration.js file as you suggested, but still doesn't work. I looked back at older versions of Configuration.js files and they did not have the SCORE_CAN_ONLY_IMPROVE option, so I also tried just removing the line, and still couldn't get it to work. These SCOs don't have scores, and they are set at the lowest requirement -- all the user has to do is to view ONE page. They get a "passed" or "complete" the first time they open and exit the SCO, but if they go back to it a second time, that's when it gets out of whack. Can you think of anything else? If not, I may have to reinstall the earlier version of Articulate 5 to republish this project (It's for compliance training -- of course).

Hi,

I definitely would recommend against removing anything from the new Configuration.js file. The files have changed between the last version and this version so removing lines from files could cause issues.

One other suggestion would be to try what is in suggested in this KB article:
Course is never completed in Saba 5.4 (SCORM 1.2) - Articulate Presenter ’09 Knowledge Base

I believe what that will do is set the CMI.CORE.EXIT value to null, which should force the LMS to ignore subsequent attempts.
