I realize the engage in engage feature is not supported by Articulate, but it is so handy I couldn't help myself.
I created 3 EinE interactions on a development computer, saved to CD, then played in new computer from the CD. Now, I am having an issue with getting the 'element' engage interaction (the interaction inside the main interaction) to play. I get the loading clock-type thing for Flash, but it never completes loading. So I saved the whole project on thumb drive and placed on desktop of new computer. Tried to play and got the same result. I had this issue before on my development computer, and used the Flash 10 Updater to correct the issue. I have tried the uploader on the new computer but it finds 0 files to update. Other flash files are working fine, just the element files in the container interaction are not playing. The new computer runs Vista. I also went to the Adobe site after the prompt and clicked Always Allow, then re-started. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Did you move the contents from the inserted Engage to the published Engage file?

Thanks for replying. I went through the Publish to CD process, and I guess I assumed all the project files would follow. Are you alluding that for some reason the Engage element content folders may not have been bundled with everything else?

If you insert a web object everything follows. But if you insert an engage.swf into engage, you have to move the contents folder from the old engage into the same folder as the inserted swf (and name the folder to match).
My guess is that you inserted the engage.swf and when you published that the swf is looking for the content folder. |

I think Sam is on the right track. Look at Dave's blog. He explains how to insert engage in engage.

My only problem with all this . . . . . . is the changing navigation for the learner, especially if all this is embedded in an AP preso. You could have an AP preso with it's unique navigation (usually at the bottom), then your main Engage interaction (which may switch navigation to the top left), and then the same with the inserted Engage in an engage interaction. No wonder learners get bewildered by us some time . . . . Seems like developers being "cool" at the expense of learner usability. I'm getting feedback from many of our users that even with a simple Engage interaction in AP that the switching of the navigation focus is something that many people do not like. That's why during the 09 betas we raised the point of having AP navigation control the navigation of any inserted Engage interactions--this is something Articulate should address (I've submitted my feature request on this). I'm usually of the school you should keep learner navigation simple and in the same spot.

Confusing navigation is one way to meet some of those mandatory time requirements in a course

Thanks for your replies. I am hoping the 09 upgrade simplifies the navigation. I am trying to place the content for each lesson into one interaction, and I have been including navigation directions for the element interaction in the introductio.
Sam, I will move the contents folder onto the new computer folders and see if that does the trick.
