Default embedding engage interactions into glossary

Hi, I am trying to develop a multimedia glossary. I have developed several engage interactions and published them as flash files. I am now trying to put these flash files into my glossary. For some reason the flash files never load... the icon for loading is constantly turning, but the flash file never shows... From time to time with in the properties dialogue box: if I press stop the flash file shows itself... but if I publish -- it never shows (just the turning icon: as if loading).
What can I do - is the problem that the swf file is always called "engage"-- should I change this name? Should I put the engage folder (for each new engage project) within the glossary folder?
Nothing seems to work. I am just testing on my computer.

thanks

rebecca

Hi Rebecca,

You can do what you want and you don't need to rename the engage files but you need to bear in mind that Engage publications are not a single swf but actually call in other files to run. You will need to copy these extra files into your glossary publication for this to work.
  1. First import your engage publications into your glossary via the Engage interface as you have done and publish this to the web.
  2. Then go to the publication folder on your hard disk (Engage output) and open it and notice that there is an engage.swf and an engage_content folder. You need these two elements for any publication to work. You simply have to import the external engage publication engage-content folders and put them in the engage_content folder of your glossary publication.
  3. Go to the first external engage publication which you want to import in your glossary and copy the engage_content folder.
  4. Now go back to your glossary publication and put this folder IN the engage_content folder of your glossary publication. You will also see other files in this folder, including various swf files. Each of these swf files is the swf of your external Engage publications which you inserted via Engage at the beginning.
  5. The first Engage publication in your glossary will have the name swf0.swf. Change the name of the engage_content folder which you have just pasted into the same folder to swf0_content .
  6. Now go ahead and copy and paste the engage_content of your second external Engage publication you wish to import into the same engage_content folder of your glossary publication.
  7. Change the name of this folder to swf1.swf which represents the swf of your second publication.
  8. Go ahead until all your engage_content folders for all your external Engage publications have been imported and their names changed to reflect the swf name and you've finished.
This pics shows the contents of your main glossary engage_content folder with three external engage publications (swf0.swf and swf0_engage, swf1.swf and swf1_engage and swf2.swf and swf2_engage)

Nice. I remember trying that a while back, but not really having a use for it. Look at your demo gives me some ideas. I forwarded the link on to some others in our organization.

Thanks for writing up the detailed instructions.
