While recreating files to test the audio issue I am experiencing I tried to load a new Engage file to a presentation and Presenter does not seem to know I have Engage installed. Do I need to uninstall Engage and reinstall for Presenter to recognize it? If so, it seems to me a better solution would be to have Presenter look for Engage when installed.
Attached is the message I receive when I attempt to insert Engage content. |

Hello,
This is strange, and I can't seem to reproduce this problem. Since you have mentioned a couple of problems with Articulate Presenter it might be worth uninstalling and reinstalling to see if that corrects this issue. This issue coupled with your audio issue from earlier makes me think the installation might have been the cause of both issues.

OK, I performed the following actions:
1. Uninstalled AP 2. Re-booted my system (just in case) 3. Re-Installed AP 4. Re-booted my system 5. Opened my presentation Findings: My Engage presentation was back and I could launch Engage and edit it from the presentation. However, when I deleted the Engage content and tried to place it back in using the Engage selection from the drop down and again AP acts like Engage is not installed. Notes: Prior to re-installing I published my presentation with the non-working version of Engage and my audio played fine. This led me to the action above of deleting the original content. At that point I published again thinking that maybe I could regain audio, however this did not work. Then I ran into the problem of not being able to re-insert my Engage content. This is very unstable behavior. Is there a recommended order of installing the following components: AP, QM, and Engage? I will try and send you my presentation, zipped prior to all this, under a private message. |

Hello Bill,
I just tried setting up a new machine with Engage 1.1, Articulate Presenter beta and Quizmaker beta and could not reproduce this problem. I got your presentation, but unfortunately that does not help me figure out what is causing the issue because Articulate Presenter actually checks your physical machine to see if Engage is installed or not. I am waiting to hear back from a developer about other possible solutions. Also, we don't specifically have a recommended order for installing Articulate Presenter, Quizmaker or Engage. Regardless of the order they are installed in they should still be able to detect each other. I'll let you know as soon as I hear back from the developer.

Hey Bill,
Can you do the following and let me know if you have this registry key: 1. Go to Start>Run 2. Type 'regedit' 3. Hit Ok 4. Look for the following registry key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Articulate.Engage\CurVer That is the key that Articulate Presenter looks for when checking if Engage is installed. The account that you are using needs to have read permissions for that key, so if you are running in a locked down environment Articulate Presenter might have adequate permissions to check if Engage is installed.

I get the same message all the time as well. Its very frustrating. I too was instructed to uninstall and reinstall both my AP and Engage. Did so more than once. However, problem still exist. As a temporary work-around, i have found success closing up PowerPoint, then re-opening. This seems to re-establish the "link" temporarily. I would still like to resolve if someone has a better solution.

After a lot of experimentation I found the following steps necessary if I want to include Engage content to be inserted and published in AO:
1. Open Engage (opening a project is not necessary) 2. Open PowerPoint 3. Open Project After these steps everything works fine. If I don't do these then AP does not recognize that I have Engage installed. When this happens the Engage presentation already installed in my presentation will occasionally become a simple graphic and not function. Like Kevin, I have attempted reinstalling many times and even tried installing components in various orders to see if that influenced the issue, which it did not. There is definitely a bug causing this issue. It is my belief that the issue may be a conflict with the programs already installed on a system. This would explain why Articulate has had a difficult time reproducing it even though it seems to be occurring with a few of the beta testers. But that is just my two cents... |

I've found the same sequence to work as well; if I forget to open Engage first, PPT/AP has a senior moment: the properties links on Engage slides in the PPT don't link, and the Engage link on the PPT/AP dropdown menu wants to sell me Engage.
Just got into the habit of opening 1) Engage, 2) PPT, 3) project. Seems to work fine after that. BTW, did the registry and Engage version checks via tech support advice early on, but didn't make any difference -- whereas the order of apps did... Regards, Michael

Just an update, I have tested again with the most recent release candidate. Unfortunately the problem persists.

Hello All,
Yeah I still haven't been able to reproduce the problem at all. Are any of you that experience this issue running under any type of restricted user rights on your computer? What type of OS are you using?
