Default Creative examples of Engage

What types of content are you using for Engage? Assessments? Learning objectives? Course content?

Engage is the most form-based product in Studio '09, but that doesn't mean it can't be used beyond its intended designs.

For example: FAQ interaction. While this is a great way to post FAQs, the interaction is essentially an accordion widget that reveals one slide at a time and could be used for many other types of content. Check out jQuery Slider Plugin, jQuery SlideShow, Free Slideshow Software Download | SlideDeck for examples of another accordion menu and how it was used.

Please share ideas or ways your'e using Engage!

Engage as a Video Player

Here's an idea for using Engage as screencast player. Because Engage works both as an interaction within Presenter as wel as a standalone application, there are many ways to use it to distribute video-based content.

From another thread we have the example Tom came up with for the LINGOS Giveback project: Inserting Engage as Flash object in Presenter

The jQuery example is interesting - it's the same thing as the Engage example except horizontal (with some refined graphic/rollover work). Still, even from a straight functionality perspective, it's amazing the difference that orientation makes. Both formats are great; the vertical format I think tends to be perceived as the older approach while the horizontal format seems to have reinvented itself as the "IT" of current web design.

Feature request - I think the FAQ interaction could benefit from options that allow for vertical or horizontal placement. I also feel the TABS interaction could too. In by offering more flexibility, or rather more tool transparency, what follows is greater use, adoption and creativity.

All said Studio '09, as it is, is not exploited as much as it could be by those who use it. The forums, screenrs and blogs help bridge that gap. It's all good. The current release has shifted my thinking and I can't wait for the next one. : )

Off the soap box now...check out stephanieharnett.ca for creative use of Engage as a mechanism to launch screenr tutorials and profile information.

P.S. - Creativity opens up in a big way with new interaction types. The community provides these but it would be great for Articulate to provide some too (on a regular basis, by subscription, etc). Evolving, growing and progressing - as a perceived and actual constant - is a great win for all.
