There’s a new update available: Studio ’09 Update 5 Released July 15, 2009

Today we released Studio ’09 Update 4, which is a significant update with new features in Presenter ’09 and Quizmaker ’09, an all-new self-service activation process — for those of you behind a firewall that blocks product activation, or who have previously depended on email activation — as well as more than 100 important product fixes across all tools.

What’s new?

Along with the self-service activation, here are some highlights about what’s new in Studio ‘09 Update 4:

  • Presenter ’09: Use the Colorizer to change slide notes background color
  • Presenter ’09: Set frame rate (FPS) on slides
  • Presenter ’09: Leverage animated horizontal hierarchy SmartArt
  • Quizmaker ’09: Choose to hide correct answer from users in quiz review
  • Quizmaker ’09: Include quiz title in email results
  • Engage ’09: Download updated .artpkg files for Community Interactions

And lots more!

Hi Gabe,

I checked for updates and it said there were none.
I am using version 6.0.901.713 Pro. Is this the latest?

cheers,
Zem

Zem  |  Posted at 07:23 pm on March 4th, 2009 |  #

Hi Zem- Could your firewall be blocking the application when it checks for updates?

That is not the latest. Presenter 6.1.903.321 is the latest (Presenter ‘09 Update 4) and you can download it via the free trials form, too (you’ll be able to activate the free trial with your serial number).

gabe  |  Posted at 07:18 am on March 5th, 2009 |  #

Hi Gabe
I started the update and the system says: “Please wait while previous Articulate Studio is uninstalled. This could take a few minutes.” But now it lasts 4 hours and nothing new is installed. Can you help?
(Studio 09 with last update 3 in January, Powerpoint 2007 and running on Vista)
Greetings
George

George  |  Posted at 08:02 am on March 5th, 2009 |  #

Hi George- Could you please submit a support case with additional details so that we can assist you further? For example, are you using a non-English operating system?

gabe  |  Posted at 08:08 am on March 5th, 2009 |  #

Gabe –
When I go to Help – Check for Updates, it says no updates available at this time. Using Version 3.0.901.713 for Quizmaker, Version 2.1.901.713 of Engage, Version 1.0.901.713 of Encoder, and Version 6.0.901.713 Pro of Presenter (all say ‘09). Firewall issue? Submit a case report? Thanks.

Brian  |  Posted at 08:49 am on March 5th, 2009 |  #

Hi Brian- You’re using the new version of Engage, so you’re good there, but need to update the other products.

And yes, it is likely a firewall issue. See my above reply to Zem re: downloading and activating the latest free trial to upgrade.

gabe  |  Posted at 08:56 am on March 5th, 2009 |  #

Hi again, Brian- Just to clarify- that’s NOT the latest version of Engage, either.. sorry for confusion. You’ll want to get the latest trial installer and make sure you get all products reinstalled.

Hi,

We have some issue with the playing time. The actual playing time of the course is 20 minutes. But, the playing time near the title shows 9 minutes. Can you help us in resolving this issue?

Regards,
Akila

Akila  |  Posted at 12:17 am on March 6th, 2009 |  #

Hi Akila- Is your entire course on a single slide, by chance? Does this article help?

Are any of the performance and stability problems with Presenter ‘09 addressed? Using Patch 3, loading and publishing are so long that the product is really painful to use. Waiting each time for the packing and unpacking is a 10-15 minute process between the time we open one of our projects before it’s ready to go. Publishing takes 1 1/2 hours and crashes 1/3 of the time. Since Publishing isn’t incremental, when it crashes or you have to make even the smallest change the whole thing has to start over. File-Send to Articulate crashes 100% of the time. None of this happened with the same presentation prior to Studio ‘09.

I was working on a module on our network drive for two weeks. Only after I installed the Update 4 on Friday, am I not able to get back into the file (I get a warning message that says: “Presenter unable to open project file”). I haven’t touched the file since I updated AP, so this is the only thing I can think of. Thoughts?

Jen Vetter  |  Posted at 09:49 am on March 9th, 2009 |  #

Neal, regarding publishing taking longer, take a look at this Knowledge Base article:
http://www.articulate.com/support/presenter09/kb/?p=388

You can review what was addressed in Presenter Update 4 here:
http://www.articulate.com/support/presenter09/kb/?p=425

If publishing crashes, see if this article helps:
http://www.articulate.com/support/presenter09/kb/?p=497

Regarding being unable to Send to Articulate Presenter Package I would suggest you submit a case so we can help you out:

Jen, my first suggestion would be to copy the PPT and PPTA to a folder on your local drive. Open the PPT file there and see if you are able to work with the project as expected. We don’t recommend working on a network drive as outlined in this blog article:
http://www.articulate.com/blog/locals-only/

Justin Wilcox  |  Posted at 10:19 am on March 10th, 2009 |  #

Regarding: “Presenter unable to open project file” I am having the same issue except I created my files using the local drive as recommended. Is this mean that I have to recreate all the things that I’ve been working on?

Hi Susie. I would suggest submitting a case so we can help you out:

Hi All, I’m having this odd problem. I’ll submit a ticket, but just in case it’s happening to others. I’ve downloaded and installed QM 2x. But, it’s still reading as QM V. 3.xxxx.

And, the first time I attempted to install the update, it said QM was still open when it wasn’t. Looking forward to the anticipated help on white horses that you guys always provide. ‘-) MK

I have been trying to get the Quizmake to work on my LMS system. The problem is, is that everytime I complete the quiz it gives me Null errors. It still records the score but these errors are a pain. Any ideas how to fix this issue?

Joe Wilson  |  Posted at 11:49 am on March 16th, 2009 |  #

Joe,

I would suggest you submit a case.

Me again. Just learned something about the QM Studio 09 Update 4. It’s not a major release, so the version number doesn’t jump from 3.xxx to 4.

Margaret Kelsey  |  Posted at 12:39 pm on March 16th, 2009 |  #

The 3.xxx is referencing the version as in this is the third version of Quizmaker.

Justin Wilcox  |  Posted at 02:44 pm on March 16th, 2009 |  #

Any ideas how long it take for a response when you open a case? Do you have to own the software before they will give you a response. I want to purchase the product but I want to make sure it works before I purchase.

Joe Wilson  |  Posted at 04:51 pm on March 16th, 2009 |  #

Hi Joe- It looks like Dave B. replied to your Case #00124083 at 10:14am EDT this morning. As Dave mentioned, it looks like the issue you were experiencing is specific to your LMS, so I’d recommend contacting them directly. Also feel free to reply to the email from Articulate Support if there’s anything else we can do to help.

And for the record, no, you don’t need to be a customer for us to support you; we support trial customers, too.

gabe  |  Posted at 09:55 am on March 17th, 2009 |  #

Gabe thank you for the information. My corporate filter must have blocked it. So I my appologies. Your support has been excellent and I look forward to purchasing it and utilzing it in the future.

Joe Wilson  |  Posted at 09:57 am on March 17th, 2009 |  #

Sure thing, Joe! Great to hear our support has been excellent for you. Let us know what else we can do to help.

Thanks for the update. I’m sorry to see that the Captivate 4 / Echo issue was not resolved with this patch. Even with the workaround you suggest. It renders Presenter as an unworkable option for us. Regardless if it’s Adobe’s fault or Articulate’s I hope it is fixed soon. I miss using your product.

Thanks

Dan  |  Posted at 01:20 pm on March 20th, 2009 |  #

Hi Dan- I assume you’re referring to this workaround, right?

(In case others come across your comment, I also wanted to include that link for reference.)

gabe  |  Posted at 01:39 pm on March 20th, 2009 |  #

Yes, Thanks for including the link. Unfortunately we need to have everything appear in the same window.

Dan  |  Posted at 01:43 pm on March 20th, 2009 |  #

You can have the movie play in the slide, you just need to have it play independently of the slide and set the slide to advance by user.

Justin Wilcox  |  Posted at 01:46 pm on March 20th, 2009 |  #

Downloaded Studio update and activated Presenter to most current versions.
When opened the other apps did not ask for activation so not sure if they updated or not.
Are these the latest –
QM
v3.1.903.321
ENGAGE
v2.1.903.321
VIDEO
v1.1.903.321

Justin  |  Posted at 09:13 am on March 26th, 2009 |  #

Hi Justin- Yes, you are using the latest versions.

Hi – I purchased the Stuio ‘09 suite, but I cannot open it. In the process of downloading, my computer went to blue screen of death. The programs are showing up as shortcuts, but every time I try to open them, it says I have encountered an error or I get the blue screen of death. I tried to remove the programs in add/remove so I could start ove, but they aren’t showing up there. PLEASE ADVISE!!!

My company has recently purchased Articulate Studio ‘09 and I have been able to activate all of the products except
Articulate Presenter ‘09. I had installed the trial version a couple of months ago. When I try to open Presenter ‘09 i do not have an activation button to select. What steps do I need to take to activate this portion of my product? Thank you, Lynette

Lynette Ford  |  Posted at 05:12 pm on June 19th, 2009 |  #

Hi Lynette- you should be prompted to activate Presenter ‘09 when you launch PowerPoint. If that’s not happening, could you please submit a support case?

Good news: Update 5 is now available!

gabe  |  Posted at 12:40 pm on July 15th, 2009 |  #

Just in case of Echo problems using Adobe Captivate 4. Create a transition page in captivate without any sound. This makes it so the swf files doesn’t echo when in presenter. The update didn’t work for me but this solution did.
