Use Transitions to Make Your Elements Feel More Connected

Storyline has many features that make it easy to create visually engaging slides. Many are obvious, such as customizable buttons, light boxes, and slide layers. Today I want to shine a light on a feature that’s more nuanced, yet plays an important supporting role to your star elements: transitions. Giving some extra attention on your transitions can really kick up the professional feel of your course.

Slide transitions
When your course transitions from slide to slide, the change can feel pretty abrupt. You can soften this easily with a simple transition animation between slides. Storyline has a number of built-in transitions to fit your course theme: from simple fades to wipes and covers, you have a variety of options right at your fingertips. You can also adjust the speed setting of the transition to get the perfect timing and feel for your course. Take a look at this screenr for a quick walk-through:

Slide layer transitions
Controlling how your slides move from one to the next is just one application of transitions. What about transitioning slide layers? A slide layer transition can be a timesaver if you want all objects to animate in (say, fade in) at the same time. You can also use slide layer transitions to make navigation feel smoother around interactions. While you don’t have quite as many options for slide layer transitions, the basic fade and cover choices make a noticeable difference in the finish level of your course. Watch this screenr to see how slide layer transitions make a tabs interaction feel a little more professional:
