Quiz Branching
One of the more powerful features of our quiz software Quizmaker, when its output is combined with Presenter, is to specify where the user should be directed upon either passing or failing a quiz. This is known as quiz branching and is highly effective when used along with hiding slides (see this tip).
Here’s how to set up quiz branching with your Quizmaker quiz in Presenter:
- Open your PowerPoint file into which you want to insert your quiz.
- With your PowerPoint file still open, launch your Quizmaker quiz and select Publish -> Articulate Presenter.
- If it’s not already checked, check the box to Send to Active presentation.
- Click Publish and Quizmaker will automatically bring you into the Articulate Quizmaker Quiz wizard.
- When prompted, specify your choice for When user passes, ‘Finish’ button: Goes to Slide Number. Slide Name, and select the slide where you’d like your users to go.
- Repeat last step for When user fails, ‘Finish’ button: Goes to Slide Number. Slide Name.
- Complete the wizard.
- Optionally, hide your pass/fail slides from the navigation (see this tip).
That’s it! You’ve now created quiz branching to dynamically direct your users to content appropriate to his or her pass/fail status.

What happens to the quiz/learning game data if the online module you’ve created is published to a web or CD and not sitting on an LMS?
Hi Scott- You can leverage this feature of Quizmaker regardless of how you’re delivering your quiz (Web, CD, or LMS). In other words, you don’t need an LMS to use this feature.
You only need an LMS (or Articulate Online) if you’re looking to track and report on quiz responses and pass/fail data in a server-based environment.
Can you branch to other quiz questions to help build information or take a person beyond?
When you branch to another slide can you branch from that slide back to the quiz or does the individual have to restart the quiz once they have learned the concept?
I want to use both learning games and quizes in my e learning modules – however i do not want the LMS to pick up results of the learning games – but i do want the quiz results to be tracked – can i do this?
@Helen: Yes, you can do that. In Reporting and Tracking when you publish for LMS, just specify the quiz you’d like to track in the LMS. This screencast covers how to choose method of LMS completion tracking.
